Our Story
Karukhaya connects South Africa and Switzerland through the things we choose to live with.
Karukhaya was born from a connection between two places, two perspectives and a shared appreciation for things made with care.
South Africa is where our products begin. Switzerland is where we bring them home.
We work with selected South African makers, producers and small businesses to discover pieces that feel honest, useful and worth keeping. Products with a sense of place, made by people who know their craft.
Our first collection began with something simple: sheepskin slippers. A familiar piece, made in South Africa, with all the qualities we look for in the things we bring into our homes. Natural materials, thoughtful craftsmanship and a timeless feel.
Karukhaya is about finding those pieces and giving them a place in a different home.
SOUTH AFRICA × SWITZERLAND
Karukhaya lives between South Africa and Switzerland.
Our connection to South Africa is personal, but the idea behind Karukhaya is bigger than that. We see an opportunity to introduce Swiss customers to the creativity, craftsmanship and small businesses we encounter in South Africa.
At the same time, Switzerland brings another perspective: a love for considered design, quality and things that are made to last.
The result is a brand shaped by both.

PEOPLE, CRAFT & ORIGIN
We believe the story of a product starts long before it reaches your door.
That is why we care about where our products come from, how they are made and who makes them.
We work closely with our producers and stay connected to the people behind the products. Whenever possible, we visit them in South Africa and see the work for ourselves.
Our sheepskin slippers, for example, are handcrafted in South Africa using 100% genuine sheepskin. We also work with local initiatives such as Earth Africa, supporting handcrafted work and creating opportunities for women in rural communities.
For us, supporting local production is not an extra feature of the brand. It is part of why Karukhaya exists.
A SMALL BRAND, WITH ROOM TO GROW
Karukhaya is still at the beginning.
We are building a brand around products we genuinely like and would choose for ourselves, while staying open to where the journey takes us next.
What connects everything is simple: good materials, thoughtful craftsmanship, interesting stories and a feeling of home.
We don't want to fill a home with more things.
We want to find the right ones.
